End of the Line  Contributor's Pick!
Just down the hill from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was the "College" station of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. The sole remaining P&LE passenger train, which ran until July 1985, started here every weekday morning for one trip to Pittsburgh and then came back in the evening. Not long after I made this picture, the train made its last run (you can see the discontinuance notice in the station window). June 1985 (date approx.) Unfortunately other signs of the P&LEs decline are in evidence: the hoppers on the left are in storage (note rust on the wheel tread); somebody told me that the railroad later sold a whole fleet of those hoppers to the Peoples Republic of China! Today you'd only find one track here (with concrete ties) operated by CSX.
